I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the country from which I write in the foothills north-east of Melbourne, at the base of the Kinglake Ranges and the Great Dividing Range: the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. I pay my respects to Elders past and Elders present, and extend my respect to all Elders and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders across Australia and living in all parts of the world.
The Wurundjeri are people of the Wurun, the river white gum, and their Creator spirit is Bunjil the eagle who glides overhead. The Traditional Owners, brimming with the energy of Creation, nurtured the land and were nurtured by the living spirit of the dreaming country. This landscape is rich with story, flowing ever outwards from Creation, since men and women awoke from the dreaming. I acknowledge the presence of the ancestors who reside in the land's own living imagination.
