The Taste of Saltwater

Fish from the bay
Caught fresh today
Beautiful cut
Clean out the gut
Big fish hollow bellies
Not much flesh
Delicate meat
That the kids won't eat.

Because it tastes like adult sadness
Bad sex, grief, the end of a marriage

Tastes like last summers
Salt on the skin
A year of memories you'd rather forget
The bittersweet of a late afternoon

Tastes like one day, some time ago, before I met you.

I love this, Penni. Odd then sad and then delightful. A celebration of life going on.
