We weren't at home when the fires hit St Andrews, and we haven't been back since. Things sound pretty bad up there, though our house will still be standing, the fire didn't get quite as far as the township (though it got pretty damn close - we were saved by the wind changing - the people of Kinglake weren't so lucky). We still don't know the extent of the damage, but we know houses have been lost, people have died and others are still missing.
My love goes out to everyone who has been affected by the fires, especially in our wider community of St Andrews and Kinglake.
I will post more about this later, but I wanted to drop by and let those of you who knew about the fires and didn't have another way to contact me that we are well.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI was in Tas yesterday, and only heard about the fires this morning. i just checked to see where they were and when I heard about St Andrews, I immediately thought of you and your girls. Although it's been a long, long time since we saw each other, I am really glad to hear that you are ok, and that your house is still standing. It must be very distressing though. Take care Mrs Eglantine.

That's good to read. I was just watching something on the news and thought that St Andrews was the name of your town, so came to send you a quick message. Very glad to hear you are okay. xxx
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that you are ok. I have read that so many from your area have lost their lives and homes and rushed here to check on you.
ReplyDeleteHope that all will be ok. It's just so sad. So incomprehensible. :-(

ReplyDeleteSo horrible, the firestorm at Kinglake, and Marysville, too - dropped in there just last October after a few days on my own at Healesville, and so I remember it like it was last week. How can it all be gone, pffft? Horrendous.
I'm so relieved you are all ok. Keep in touch. xx
ReplyDeleteSo relieved you are okay.
ReplyDeleteGreat news Penni, we were worried. Hope there's not too much devastation for you to face when you go home, and that nobody special to you has been affected badly.

ReplyDeleteI scrolled down and laughed when I saw your "Fifteen" post. It was my all-time favourite book as a teenager, and I also revisited it only a week or so ago in my blog. Must be something in the air.
